This laboratory has been doing work on the physical properties of leather and its constituent fibre, collagen*.

For external users of SEM facility
Private Institutions have to pay a lumpsum advance - a minimum amount of Rs. 25,000 plus 10.3% service tax for 5 hrs operation of the SEM (Rs. 3500 per hour of operation of Instrument; Gold-Palladium coating Rs.1500 for a maximum of 7 samples at a time). Up to 7 samples can be examined in a one hour operation of the machine. The five hour usage can be made over a three month period.

Educational institutions will also be charged at the above rate but the time limit can be extended at the discretion of the Director of CLRI.
Samples are examined preferably on Mondays for external users and an appointment has to be fixed earlier by contacting the lab
Dimensions of sample - up to 1cm x 1cm x 2cm (l x b x h); sample heights must not vary more than 5mm
Powdery materials have to be stuck on adhesive(araldite) coated aluminium foil of 1cm dia and the polymer
must have been heat cured.
All samples should be dried well beforehand; otherwise more time is required to attain operational vacuum.
The images will be given recorded on CD provided by the user.
Payments have to be made by local cheque/draft in the name of Director, CLRI, Chennai 20.
